The New Forest Holmsley Campsite Offers Great Camping For All the Family. Find Out More and Why.

The New Forest Holmsley Campsite Offers Great Camping For All the Family. Find Out More and Why.

The New Forest Holmsley campsite is like many others found within the New Forest. It was once the site of a World War Two airfield. This means there are ample concrete bases for tents and caravans and motorhomes and also that you wont be sploshing about in mud to get to the shop or toilets and showers!

Surely a bonus?

It could be described as being in a really ideal location for a family – I once heard it portrayed as having its head in the New Forest and its feet in the sea! What this means is that without leaving the area of the campsite you can happily set off as a family along flat paths across the New Forest on your bikes, or go on a lovely walk which will take in all the beauty of the surrounding New Forest.

If you fancy some seaside days out, then the lovely local villages of Milford on Sea, Mudeford (which is great for crabbing – you only need a simple line and you will catch a crab!), Christchurch, Bournemouth and Poole are all close at hand and can easily be reached by car.

If the weather shines it really is hard to beat – we’ve spent many a day just “chilling out” against a “groyne”, with the dog in the shade trying to keep cool, when she wasn’t having a good old swim!

Here’s what New Forest Holmsley campsite has to offer:

600 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes

Toilets and showers fully refurbished for 2007

Childrens Play Area

Disabled facilities

Forest store

Dogs welcome

Baby changing facilities

Seasonal pitches available

Launderette

Payphone

Recycling facilities

Pre pitched caravans available

As well as all these facilities there is the World War Two history factor of the site.

During World War Two the Holmsley South Airfield was here. All these New Forest airfields were absolutely crucial to the success of the Allied forces. Nearby is a magnificent memorial to all the 12 New Forest airfields and it is beautifully represented by a front propeller blade of a WW2 aircraft.

If you are interested in WW2 and what part the New Forest played in the successful outcome I’ve got lots of pages on just this, with details of the New Forest, WW2 and the wartime memorials you can visit when you stay in this beautiful area.

The skies in the New Forest are big and wide. Good weather will mean you will really enjoy your stay – the nightimes are also great too, as the star formations are just beautiful to see.

I hope you think of visiting the New Forest Holmsley campsite, and that your camping stay whether in a tent, caravan or motorhome is just wonderful. Look out for the stunning wildlife in this beautiful area and be prepared to see New Forest ponies, donkeys, cows, deer and even the odd pig!

I’ve recently visited the New Forest Holmsley campsite and the nearby New Forest Airfields Memorial and it was a great place to see. There is so much to offer a family or a couple wishing to enjoy the beautiful New Forest and the nearby coast. If you want to find out more then visit my New Forest Life travel Guide. There is just so much for me to share with you, of what living in this beautiful area is like.
