Selecting the Right Camping Tent

While shopping for new camping tent, look for features that will last long and make outdoor your trip even more fun-filed. Know your budget beforehand and decide how much you can afford. Your tent should not be necessarily expensive, but it should be utilitarian. Once you have outlined your budget, you can know exactly what type of camping tents are available in that price range. Lets start with some of the most important features that should be considered while buying a tent.

Size of the tent

Determine your requirement for the camp. Number of people you are going accommodate in the tent, and do you need extra room in your backpacks to store other equipment. Tents are available in different capacities and sizes. For instance, a two-person camp will have very little elbow room or storage space. A four-person tent will be more comfortable with larger room and space to store your gears. For the family of four, it is recommended to have a six-person tent. As a thumb rule always opt for a camping tent, which has capacity of two person higher than the actual number of occupants.

You can also check out multi-compartment tents. If you have planned your holiday with kids, a two-room tent will provide you with a private space. The rooms can be divided by simply dividing the space with zippered flap. Three-room tents are yet another good option with an added screen room. The screen room makes a convenient space for changing your wet and dirty clothes. Tent Poles

A tent may be available with fiberglass poles, but they are fragile and may probably break. However if you break the poles, getting a replacement is not much difficult.

Rainfly

Rainfly is actually tent’s umbrella. The bigger is the umbrella better will be the tent. Always look for the rainfly that comes down to the sides. Rainfly should always be waterproof.

Seams & Stitching

If you pull the material of the tent from either sides, there should be no visible space between the seams. If you can see through the stitches, the tent will surely leak. Prefer folded seam and double stitch.

Tub Floor

The floor of the tent should be made of water-proof material. A seamless floor means there is no space for water to seep in.

Guy Lines

Tent wall, and sometimes rainflies, have leaves stitched near the center. These loops are used as an attachment for guylines to keep the walls of the tent stretched. This helps the tent to stand firmly even in the windy conditions.

Stake Loops

Check whether there are loops at the base of the tent at every corner. These loops should be big enough to accommodate the large plastic stakes. Prefer a stake loop of solid material, or it might break during hammering.

Roof Vent

The vent at the roof of the tent will allow the circulation of air during the night, thus eliminating the condensation inside the tent.
